The Department of Computer Architecture (KASK, from polish name Katedra Architektury Systemów Komputerowych) was funded on Faculty of Electronics in 1969 alongside the creation of Institute of Technical Cybernetics led by professor Jerzy Seidler. Within the institute a Department of Operations Research and Information Processing was created which was led by doc. PhD MEng Tadeusz Bartkowski. The name of the department was changed multiple times and finally, in 1993, alongside the liquidation of institutes took its current name of Department of Computer Architecture. In 1997, after doc. Bartkowski retirement, prof. Henryk Krawczyk became the head of the department, and is taking the position until now.

Doc. Bartkowski had a great role in creation of Informatics on the Faculty. The first computers on the Faculty were installed in his department. Among them were: ZAM 41 (1966), SM3 and Riad R32. Since 2007 professor H. Krawczyk is a member of PAN and since 2008 takes the role of Rector of Gdańsk University of Technology. During years 2007-2009 he was a member of Rada Informatyzacji Ministerstwa Spraw Wewnętrznych i Administracji. He also continues the work of his predecessor extending the laboratories in direction of parallel and distributed computing. The Department cooperates with CI TASK. Since 2011 he takes the position of the chairman of the CI TASK Members Council.
