New project realised by Karolina Cysewska's team, financed by NCRD (NCBR)
The project “Innovative stent coating with polyphenol-rapamycin complex with improved drug-eluting properties to target in-stent restenosis (PoRaCoat)”, financed by the National Center for Research and Development in the amount of 1 423 392,88 PLN from the M-ERA.NET 3 Call 2023 competition, aims to develop an innovative drug release system based on a conductive polymer matrix for commercial cobalt-chromium stents. The project, except Gdańsk University of Technology, involves 3 foreign partners and one company:
- Balton Sp. z o.o., Poland
- Fraunhofer IKTS, Germany (Coordinator)
- University Hospital Dresden, Department of Visceral-, Thoracic and Vascular Surgery, Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery (UKD), Germany
- National University of Science and Technology Politehnica Bucharest, Romania.
The expected key results of the project will be a prototype of a stent coating based on a conductive polymer matrix PEDOT with an incorporated polyphenol complex and an antiproliferative drug; a system for coating Co-Cr substrates with these coatings by the electrodeposition method will be developed; adding the developed drug complex to the polymer matrix will allow for more effective and safer drug release compared to commercially available solutions. The developed coating prototype will allow for a controlled degradation rate, continuous and uniform drug release in optimal concentrations, appropriate hemo- and cytocompatibility, supporting endothelial adhesion while limiting smooth muscle adhesion.
PI of project in PL: dr inż. Karolina Cysewska.
Project is financed for 36 months and will be realised in dates: 01.06.2024-31.05.2027.
