Specialization

Since 2003, the Department of Computer Architecture offers an attractive specialty in Distributed Applications and Internet Systems in Polish language for students of second degree in Computer Science. Specialization is designed for those who want to gain knowledge about distributed and parallel computing, and want to acquire the ability to integrate software components via the Internet.

The graduates have the ability to create flexible and efficient distributed systems, to program in a variety of environments for multithreaded parallel computing: CUDA, grid and cluster environments. The graduates can apply the acquired knowledge in practice to build applications based on ready-made components or services and their integration in the form of workflow processes (workflow). He or she also knows the basic licenses and components used in free and open software.

In 2010, the Department launched a sibling version of the specialty, where classes are taught in English. This is a unique project in Computer Science at our department. We also participate in the organization and running of the new specialty "Machine Learning" and Data Engineering.

Currently, the Department employs: 5 autonomous workers (1 professor and 4 assistant professor), 5 PhDs employed in different positions and at different time basis, 2 lecturers, 10 assistants and 2 technical employees. In addition, the Department is working with PhD students.

The teaching in the Department on the I level focuses on the major subjects for Computer Science. These include: Computer Architecture, Web Applications, Technology Platforms, Concurrent Processing, Artificial Intelligence. Level II focuses on subjects tied to our research interests, namely High Performance Computing, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence.

The Department takes care of the scientific group Gradient, whose supervisors are Adam Brzeski, Jan Cychnerski and Karol Draszawka. The group focuses on machine learning and artificial intelligence.

Graduates are prepared to work in companies producing internet systems. Our graduates are working in companies such as Google, Microsoft and Amazon.

For the best students the Department offers studies in the form of Individual Course of Studies (ITS) and ensures their participation in the realization of European and national research projects. Also the participation of students in competitions such Imagine Cup is actively supported.
