Lecture

The subject is taught in the third semester of second-cycle studies in the specialization of Information Systems Engineering, consisting of: 15 hours of lectures and 15 hours of seminars per semester.

The aim of this course is to present IT projects from the perspective of their client – ​​the software recipient. It is the client who provides the financial resources with which they purchase IT programs and services. However, acquiring software requires some knowledge from the intersection of computer science and management/economics. The course explores the concepts of business strategy and demonstrates how to analyze an organization's operations to effectively support it with IT resources. Based on these analyses, a computerization strategy is defined, i.e., a long-term plan for providing the company with hardware, networks, and information systems.

Seminar

The seminar portion of the course aims to practically apply the knowledge gained during lectures to solving problems in various organizations. The task is to prepare an analysis of the selected organization's strategy and operations, and to determine how information technology could support the organization's work. The work will conclude with a presentation of the proposed solutions.

Scope of the seminar:

  • selection of the organization that will be the subject of further research. Brief description.
  • analysis of the organization's mission and strategy, definition of the hierarchy of goals and SWOT analysis.
  • analysis of the existing state of computerization and identification of as many possible areas as possible that can still be supported by IT resources.
  • defining priorities in the field of CS and IT, in accordance with the methods learned during the lecture,
  • developing an investment plan and a framework work schedule for the next 2/3 years
  • for the selected area of ​​computerization, defining the business goal, stakeholders and business events as well as assessing profitability and choosing an acquisition strategy.
