Mariusz Hoffman jest artystą grafikiem i plakacistą, zajmującym się również malarstwem sztalugowym oraz działalnością kuratorską i dydaktyczną. W latach 1977–1983 studiował na Wydziale Malarstwa i Grafiki Państwowej Wyższej Szkoły Sztuk Plastycznych w Gdańsku. Dyplom z grafiki uzyskał w pracowni prof. Jerzego Krechowicza, a studia malarskie i rysunkowe odbył pod kierunkiem prof. Kazimierza Bereźnickiego.
Od 1983 roku jest członkiem Związku Polskich Artystów Plastyków, gdzie w bieżącej oraz poprzedniej kadencji pełni funkcję wiceprezesa Okręgu Gdańskiego.
Jego praktyka artystyczna obejmuje grafikę warsztatową i cyfrową, plakat artystyczny, projektowanie graficzne oraz malarstwo. Twórczość Hoffmana cechuje wysoki poziom warsztatowy, klarowna konstrukcja wizualna oraz poetycki dialog obrazu z tekstem literackim, często inspirowany literaturą i teatrem. Artysta współpracuje z instytucjami kultury i wydawnictwami, projektując plakaty, okładki książek, ilustracje oraz identyfikacje wizualne. Jego plakaty były kilkukrotnie prezentowane na wystawach zagranicznych w Muzeum Plakatu w Lahti.
Prezentował swoje prace na licznych wystawach indywidualnych i zbiorowych. Do kluczowych wystaw indywidualnych należą: Plakaty (Empik – Długi Targ, Gdańsk, 1993), indywidualna wystawa plakatów teatralnych w Teatr Wybrzeże (1994), William Szekspir – Cyfrowe grafiki i tradycyjny plakat (BWA Sopot, 1995), Mariusz Hoffman – Grafiki z Ekfrazą (Gdańsk, 2019), indywidualna wystawa w Galerii ZPAP na Mariackiej, Plakat teatralny i… (Galeria Mariacka, Gdańsk, 2023) oraz indywidualna wystawa plakatu w Galerii w Zaułku w Gdańsku (2024).
Brał udział m.in. w wystawach: Wolność w sztuce. Trzy pokolenia (2018), wystawie wykładowców Polsko-Japońskiej Akademii Technik Komputerowych w Galerii Stacja Kultura (2020), Fortepian Szopena w Dworku Sierakowskich w Sopocie (2021 – nagroda główna za cykl Obraz + Wiersz), Skąd przychodzimy? Kim jesteśmy? Dokąd zmierzamy? w Galerii Piwna (2021 – jako kurator i artysta) oraz wystawie zbiorowej w Galerii COSMA w Sopocie (2024).
Jest aktywnym kuratorem wystaw artystów gdańskich. W 2025 roku pełnił funkcję kuratora merytorycznego XXIV edycji Nagrody im. Kazimierza Ostrowskiego dla malarza Łukasza Patelczyka. Jako wiceprezes ZPAP realizuje również wywiady filmowe z artystami, publikowane na stronach Związku oraz w katalogach wystawienniczych, których jest często projektantem.
W dorobku posiada liczne projekty identyfikacji wizualnych, m.in. dla Teatru Wybrzeże (1993–1995), Klubu Żak (do 2001) oraz logo Nagrody im. Kazimierza Ostrowskiego (2023).
Od 2013 roku wykłada grafikę i projektowanie graficzne w Polsko-Japońskiej Akademii Technik Komputerowych, wcześniej nauczał w Akademii Sztuk Pięknych w Gdańsku. W 2023 roku otrzymał Nagrodę Rektora PJATK oraz Nagrodę Prezydenta Miasta Gdańska za zasługi w działalności artystycznej, edukacyjnej i na rzecz upowszechniania kultury.

MARIUSZ HOFFMAN

Mariusz Hoffman is a Polish graphic artist and poster designer, also active in easel painting, curatorial practice, and academic teaching. He studied at the Faculty of Painting and Graphics of the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Gdańsk between 1977 and 1983. He received his diploma in graphic arts in the studio of Prof. Jerzy Krechowicz, and completed painting and drawing studies under Prof. Kazimierz Bereźnicki.
Since 1983, he has been a member of the Association of Polish Artists and Designers (ZPAP), where he currently serves, as well as in the previous term, as Vice President of the Gdańsk District.
His artistic practice encompasses printmaking and digital graphics, artistic poster design, graphic design, and painting. Hoffman’s work is characterized by a high level of technical mastery, a clear visual structure, and a poetic dialogue between image and literary text, often inspired by literature and theatre. He collaborates with cultural institutions and publishers, designing posters, book covers, illustrations, and visual identities. His posters have been presented on several occasions at international exhibitions at the Poster Museum Lahti.
He has presented his work in numerous solo and group exhibitions. Selected solo exhibitions include: Posters (Empik – Długi Targ, Gdańsk, 1993), Solo exhibition of theatre posters at the Teatr Wybrzeże (1994), William Shakespeare – Digital Graphics and Traditional Poster (BWA Sopot, 1995), Mariusz Hoffman – Graphics with Ekphrasis (Gdańsk, 2019), a solo exhibition at the ZPAP Gallery on Mariacka Street, Theatre Poster and… (Galeria Mariacka, Gdańsk, 2023), and a solo poster exhibition at Galeria w Zaułku, Gdańsk (2024).
His selected group and competition exhibitions include: Freedom in Art. Three Generations (2018), an exhibition of faculty members of the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology at Galeria Stacja Kultura (2020), Chopin Piano at the Sierakowski Manor in Sopot (2021 – main prize for the project Image + Poem), Where Do We Come From? Who Are We? Where Are We Going? at Galeria Piwna (2021 – as curator and participating artist), and a group exhibition at Galeria COSMA in Sopot (2024).
Hoffman is also an active exhibition curator. In 2025, he served as chief curator of the 24th edition of the Kazimierz Ostrowski Award exhibition for painter Łukasz Patelczyk. As Vice President of ZPAP, he also produces filmed interviews with artists, published on the Association’s platforms and in exhibition catalogues, which he frequently designs.
His graphic design portfolio includes numerous visual identity projects, notably for Teatr Wybrzeże (1993–1995), Klub Żak (until 2001), and the logo of the Kazimierz Ostrowski Award (2023).
Since 2013, he has taught graphic design and digital graphics at the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology; previously, he taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk. In 2023, he received both the Rector’s Award of PJATK and the Award of the Mayor of the City of Gdańsk for his contributions to art, education, and the promotion of culture.
